After Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, the Holy Spirit led him into the wilderness. There, he fasted for forty days and forty nights. During this time, he was alone with nature and God. When the fasting ended, Jesus was hungry, and the devil came to tempt him.
First, the devil said to Jesus, ¡°If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.¡± Jesus replied, ¡°It is written, ¡®Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.¡¯¡±
Then the devil took Jesus to the holy city and had him stand on the pinnacle of the temple. He said, ¡°If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written that God will command his angels to protect you.¡± But Jesus said, ¡°It is also written, ¡®You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.¡¯¡±
Finally, the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. He said, ¡°All these I will give you if you will bow down and worship me.¡± Jesus answered, ¡°Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ¡®You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.¡¯¡±
After these temptations, the devil left Jesus, and angels came and ministered to him. This story shows Jesus’ faith and obedience to God, even when faced with great temptations.
