In the book of Acts, chapter 3, there is a remarkable story of faith and healing. Peter and John were going to the temple at the hour of prayer, about three in the afternoon. As they approached the temple, they saw a man lame from birth who had been placed at the temple gate called Beautiful. Every day, he would sit there, asking for alms from those who entered the temple. When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked for money.
But Peter, looking intently at him, said, ¡°Look at us.¡± So the man fixed his eyes on them, expecting to receive something. Peter then said, ¡°Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.¡± With that, Peter took the man by the right hand and lifted him up. Immediately, the man’s feet and ankles grew strong. He leaped up, stood, and began to walk. He entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.
All the people in the temple saw him walking and praising God, and they recognized him as the man who used to sit begging at the Beautiful Gate. They were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. Peter and John used this miraculous event as an opportunity to preach the gospel. They explained to the crowd that it was not by their own power or holiness that the man had been healed, but by the power of Jesus Christ, whom they had crucified but whom God had raised from the dead.
Peter’s sermon emphasized the need for repentance and faith in Jesus. He called on the people to turn from their sins and believe in the one whom God had sent. Many who heard his words were convinced, and the early Christian community grew. This story shows the power of God to heal both physical and spiritual ailments and the importance of sharing the message of Jesus with others.
