In the New Testament, Jesus often used parables to convey profound spiritual truths. One such story is the Parable of the Watchful Servants, which speaks to the theme of His Second Coming.
Jesus told His disciples, “Suppose a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake. Therefore, stay awake¡ªfor you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning¡ªlest he come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”
This parable illustrates the importance of readiness and vigilance. The master’s return is likened to the unexpected arrival of Jesus Christ. Just as the servants must be prepared for their master’s return at any moment, believers are called to live in anticipation of Jesus’ Second Coming. It is a reminder to be faithful in our duties and to keep our hearts and minds focused on the eternal, knowing that the time of His return is unknown but certain.
In this story, Jesus encourages His followers to live with a sense of urgency and purpose, always ready to meet Him. The Second Coming is not just a future event but a present reality that shapes our lives and choices.
