In the bustling streets of a small town, a man named Jairus was known for his important position as the leader of the synagogue. One day, he rushed to find Jesus, his face etched with desperation. His only daughter, a young girl of twelve, was on the brink of death. Jairus fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be healed and live.”
Jesus, moved by the man’s faith, immediately set off with him. Along the way, the crowd pressed in, eager to touch Jesus and be healed. Suddenly, a woman with a long-standing illness reached out and touched the edge of Jesus’ cloak. She was instantly healed, and Jesus, sensing the power that had gone out from him, stopped and asked, “Who touched me?” The woman, trembling with fear and awe, came forward and told her story. Jesus smiled and said, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”
As they continued their journey, a messenger from Jairus’ house arrived with heartbreaking news: “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?” But Jesus turned to Jairus and said, “Do not fear, only believe.” Upon reaching Jairus’ home, Jesus allowed only Peter, James, John, and the girl’s parents to enter. He took the girl by the hand and said, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” Immediately, the girl stood up and walked around, much to the astonishment of everyone present.
In that moment, Jairus’ grief turned to joy, and his faith was rewarded. The story of Jesus’ power spread far and wide, a testament to the miracles that can happen when we trust in Him.
