One of the most remarkable and awe-inspiring stories in the Bible is the account of Jesus walking on water. It is a tale that demonstrates Jesus’ divine power and the faith of his disciples.
The story unfolds on a stormy night. Jesus had sent his disciples ahead of him in a boat, while he went up into the mountains to pray. As the disciples rowed across the Sea of Galilee, a fierce storm arose. The waves crashed against the boat, and the disciples struggled to keep it afloat. They were terrified, fearing for their lives.
In the midst of the storm, Jesus appeared to them, walking on the water. The disciples were initially frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost. But Jesus called out to them, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” His voice brought a sense of calm to the stormy scene.
Peter, always impulsive and eager to prove his faith, responded to Jesus’ call. He said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” Jesus simply replied, “Come.” Peter stepped out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. For a moment, he was filled with faith and confidence. But then he looked around at the raging storm and began to doubt. As his faith wavered, he started to sink into the water.
Peter cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him, saying, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” Jesus then helped Peter back into the boat, and the storm ceased. The disciples were in awe, and they worshipped Jesus, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
This story is a powerful reminder of the importance of faith. It shows that even in the midst of the most turbulent and frightening situations, Jesus is always present and able to save. It also teaches us that our faith can be strong, but we must keep our focus on Jesus and not let fear and doubt overwhelm us.
