Jesus told his disciples a story to teach them about the foolishness of greed. He said, “The land of a certain rich man produced a bountiful harvest. The man thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ He decided to tear down his barns and build bigger ones to hold all his grain and goods. Then he said, ‘I’ll have enough for years to come. I can take it easy, eat, drink, and be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ That is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”
