Saul, a zealous Pharisee, was a fierce persecutor of the early Christians. One day, he was traveling to Damascus with the authority to arrest followers of Jesus. As he journeyed, a bright light from heaven suddenly shone around him. Struck to the ground, Saul heard a voice saying, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” He replied, “Who are you, Lord?” The voice answered, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” Blinded by the light, Saul was led to Damascus, where he fasted and prayed for three days. Then, a disciple named Ananias came to him, laying hands on Saul and restoring his sight. Saul was filled with the Holy Spirit and baptized. From that moment, he became Paul, a fervent preacher of the gospel, spreading the message of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles.
